Music Theme Production

For my second assignment for audio and music for games, I had to craft three music pieces for a proposed game idea. The music pieces should fit the proposed theme. The music pieces must last for at least 1 minute to a maximum of 1 minute and 10 seconds and loop-able, I used MixCraft6 to craft my music piece. After I was done, I did some editing in Audacity to finish it.

Game Idea:
Theme: Fantasy Fighting
Set in a fantasy world, the players control the main character and navigate through his village to seek the dragon that killed his brother. Along the way, he has to defeat monsters in order to reach the dragon which has set up its nest in the forest. The main character finally reaches the nest and has a final face off with the dragon.

Music:
Level 1: I made it sound peaceful and calming as the music will be used at the main character’s village. As the scene is peaceful, the music does not have any loud sounds.

Level 2: It is used as the battle music played when the main character is in combat with monsters. As there are actions about to take place, I composed the music with several lively loops to make it feel energetic.

Level 3: This music is for the final battle against the dragon. I tried to make the music sound epic and full of loud loops to build up the hype and anticipation as well as to get players more pumped up.

This is my end result.

Maya Texturing

For my next assignment for Maya, I had to uv unwrap and texture the dragon model I did for an earlier assignment. Because of time constraints, i did the uv unwrapping badly and it resulted in a weird texturing for parts of the dragon.

Bacteria Wipeout

The approved and updated version of my previously mentioned proposed flash game.

Name of flash game: Bacteria Wipeout

1) What is the game idea about?
You are a mouthwash agent. Your owner decided to use you to kill bacteria residing in the mouth. You are tasked with clearing all bacteria. You start off at one end of the gum and navigate through the teeth to reach the other end.

2) Why do players want to play your game? What is the unique selling point?
It features a time based event. After a minute of gameplay, an icon would be displayed showing that the event is ready. Once you click on the button, the game will paused and three facedown cards will appear. Selecting either one of them will trigger an effect, the effect can be a positive or negative effect temporary. This is unique compared to most other games which uses a checkpoint reward system. The countdown for the event will start again when you have selected your card.

3) Who is the target audience?
Childrens.

4) How is the game played?

Objectives
To clear all the bacteria left in the mouth.

Game mechanics
Players are able to move left and right as well as able to jump on top of the tooth or drop down to the gum platform. Players are granted an action mechanic, shoot, which players will use to get rid of bacteria. Every one minute of gameplay, the game display an icon. Once clicked, the game will paused and players will be able to choose a card which will either buff or weaken the player. Upon reaching certain checkpoints, players will face with an onslaught of bacteria. Player will then be able to proceed on after defeating the bacteria onslaught. Getting damaged by the bacteria will result in health lost. Upon losing all health, the player will lose and fail the mission. At certain checkpoint of the games, onslaught of bacteria will attack the player and the player is unable to move on unless the onslaught is defeated. At the final segment of the game, there will be a bacteria boss which is stronger and has more health than normal bacteria. After every one minute of gameplay, an icon for the event will become available. Once the icon has been clicked, the game will be paused and three facedown cards will appear. Each card contains different and random effects. Idea inspiration
Mega Man series – A game series where players controls the main protagonist who navigates through stages to defeat the bosses. Ideas and mechanics inspired from the Mega Man game series are wall climbing mechanics, platforms and boss battle at the end of stages. I included the listed mechanics inside the game.

Death Worm – A game where players control the worm to eat living objects to grow. Ideas and mechanics inspired from Death Worm are checkpoint permanent upgrades and kill requirements. I changed the checkpoint permanent upgrades to the time based event which will buff or weaken the player. The events however, are temporary in my game. In Death Worm, players are able to see their own upgrades. However, I changed the mechanics in my game so that players are not able to see the event cards. I also include a kill requirement system which has a tooltip to display bacteria left before the boss.

Original Monopoly – A board game where players have to utilise properties in order to force other players to become bankrupt in order to win. Ideas and mechanics inspired from Monopoly are unknown card events from Chance and Community Chest. Monopoly event cards include positive and negative events. I used the idea of players unable to foresee their upcoming event cards so players are unable to choose the one that will benefit them and also includes negative events that will weaken the player.

Research on Fun

What is fun? There are the definitions of fun. Fun as a noun could mean something provides mirth or amusement and enjoyment or playfulness. As a verb, it could mean informal or joke. And as an adjective, it means something is of or pertaining to fun, especially to social fun and also it could be used to represent whimsical or flamboyant.

There are many different views and opinions of fun. How I feel about fun is that, it is something one enjoys when doing performing certain acts. It you are enjoying a game of cards, you are having fun. That is what I personally think fun is.

Fun is a very vague topic, there are many different interpretations to it. But what I think is that, to have fun, you must be willing to immense yourself in the things you are doing in order to achieve fun. If you are not willing or reluctant to do the acts you are tasked, you would not be having fun.  If express as an emotion, it is similar to happiness, when you are having fun, you would naturally be smiling and enjoying yourself.
However, there are a few people who have fun doing acts like cutting themselves, torturing a living creature or simply being abusive and disrespectful towards others. These actions are deemed morally wrong but those people would still continue doing them to achieve their sense of fun.

Fun is rather easy to achieve, you can be having fun watching television to playing games to doing household chores and it all depends on how you look at it and how you face it. If you mentality thinks that you are not going to have fun, no matter how hard you try, you still will not have fun.

Fun is the enjoyment of pleasure, particularly in leisure activities. Fun is an experience - short-term, often unexpected, informal, not cerebral and generally purposeless. It is an enjoyable distraction, diverting the mind and body from any serious task or contributing an extra dimension to it. Although particularly associated with recreation and play, fun may be encountered during work, social functions, and even seemingly mundane activities of daily living. It may often have little to no logical basis, and opinions on whether or not an activity is fun may differ. The distinction between enjoyment and fun is difficult to articulate but real, fun being a more spontaneous, playful, or active event.

Psychologically, it has been suggested that games, toys and activities perceived as fun are often challenging in some way. When a player is challenged to think consciously, overcome challenge and learn something new, they are more likely to enjoy a new experience and view it as fun.

The definition of fun often gets hung up on the distinction between fun and entertainment. Some insist that fun requires interaction rather than just passive consumption. This however is clearly prescriptivist semantics, for plenty of passive entertainments have been called “fun” such as talking with others, learning things of interest, immersing yourself in any work or have a sense of progress.

There are multiples ways of having fun. First off, in order to have fun, you can find a new hobby or passion as you might have gotten bored of the hobby or passion you currently have, be positive in any situation because your mind will think based on how you feel. By thinking positively, you will be able to achieve fun despite not enjoying an activity. Another way is to get out of your comfort zone. By trying out new things that you would not have considered, you might be able to achieve fun in a way that you would have never imagined possible.  You can also listen to music and calm yourself down when you are stressed. When you are stressed, it is even harder to achieve fun.  It is also highly recommended that you should hang out with your close friends, as you will feel comfortable with your close friends, you can chat with them any topic you wish. By doing activities with your friend such as going on an adventure, doing something new or just idle chat, you can also have fun.
